Our Attitude toward God’s Worship and Word

Our Attitude toward God’s Worship and Word

If we cannot find any record, example, direct command etc, we should not do it.

That is the attitude toward the scriptures and our God we should have and is what we are taught we are to do. A man’s imagination is limitless and we can come up with countless ideas on how to worship, just look at the religions and types of worship that exists world wide, or even in denominations today, there is no limit to the varied activities.

The scriptures in both the OT and NT are clear on the dangers of taking liberty with what we “know” is acceptable to God vs what we “think”. The Word and Words of God are the very utterances of our God. We are to have complete submission to them because they are the only Word’s of God.

We are not to be reading some of it, believe in God, then start implementing our ideas, regardless of how sincere we are.

We are to be like Jesus right? (Philippians 2:1-8)

Can we go to heaven and not be like Christ?

Can we say we are following the example of Christ and not do as Christ did?

Also Jesus explained how He and the Father are One and how He is completely submissive to His Will and Word.

John 14:10
Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works.

John 14:23
23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father”™s who sent Me.

1 John 5:7
For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.

1 John 2:24
Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father.

2 John 1:9
Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son.

John 15:20-21 ( it is more than the Gospel, but the letters of the Apostles from the Holy Spirit also) 20 Remember the word that I said to you, “˜A servant is not greater than his master.”™ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also. 21 But all these things they will do to you for My name”™s sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me.

How important is it that we hold to what we have in the epistles, letters, example and doctrine in the Bible? Read what the Holy Spirit has said through the Apostles. This is why we are to care so much what is and what is not shown in the bible since it is all we have from God. Anything that is not in the bible, is from outside of the bible, which opens us up to judgment and risk.

Titus 1:9
holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict.

1 Corinthians 15:2
by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you-unless you believed in vain.

Philippians 2:16
holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain.

Acts 2:42
And they continued steadfastly in the apostles”™ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.

1 Timothy 4:13
Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine

1 Timothy 5:17
Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and doctrine.

2 Timothy 3:16
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,

2 Timothy 1:13
Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 3:17
Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern.

2 Thessalonians 3:9
not because we do not have authority, but to make ourselves an example of how you should follow us.

1 Corinthians 10:11
Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.

2 Peter 1:20
knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation,

2 Peter 3:16
as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.

Titus 1:9
holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict.

Revelation 2:24-26
24 “Now to you I say, and[a] to the rest in Thyatira, as many as do not have this doctrine, who have not known the depths of Satan, as they say, I will[b] put on you no other burden. 25 But hold fast what you have till I come. 26 And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations-

Jesus and the Word of God are One, John 1:1-18 and Revelation 19:13 so to change or reject the Word is to change or reject Jesus.

Revelation 19:13
He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.

We have to teach what we know and is in the Word because if we are not careful, we can loose our soul.

James 3:1
My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment.

The same word we learn about God, His Church, Jesus, Righteousness and doctrine is the same Word we learn how to worship. If God loves us enough to teach us everything else, would He not give us everything we need to know to worship Him?

2 Peter 1:2-4
2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Conclusion:

We have been given all we need for life and Godliness in Him - 2 Peter 1:3 - All we have been commanded to do from this point is Hold On to the Word, example, pattern and love for God, not change or add whatever idea we have to God’s only authorized worship.

Revelation 3:11
Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown.
