If a bunch of people walked across the desert today, in a week, there would be no evidence of it.
Also, if you go by Egyptian history on their walls, they would look perfectly victorious. They did not spend much time documenting their failures to be passed down for milinia.
Lastly, if a people had no idols and worshiped God as God designed it, there would be nothing left to show evidence of it. Time would degrade the items away.
For 30 years a congregation of the Lord worshiped in Bishoen, Osaka, Japan. I know because I worked with that congregation for 3. Today they are meeting in another place and the little apartment they met in during that time has been town down and another building has been built. If you tore down the new building, even today, you would find no evidence God was worshiped there.
God's people did not worship idols or icons. Those that sinned did. Later on some that had some symbols such as a fish or the cross and that can be found in some areas but the existance of a cross in itself does not prove a believer worshiped there since you can go into any sin ridden disco this weekend and find the cross hanging on many a girl's neck.
We have to be wise and not thrown back by such puffed up and unbelieving sinners.
