Fellowship of the Woodlands 'church'

I hope I am posting this in the right place. I read about this couple's 'ministry' on th City-Data forums.
Where does anyone get the idea that they can start a 'new church' !

Look at how large their following is already!

Re: Fellowship of the Woodlands 'church'

This is another example of "Holy Entertainment" that is trying to make its way into the Lord's Church. From their website you can see that this is a man made denomination that seeks to "entertain" people into an "exciting" Christian life.

I'm sure that more and more people will be drawn to it. Some of the things that stood out to me...

It does not have a scriptural name...

It is not organized in a scriptural structure....

It does not follow a scriptural plan of salvation....

It accepts the error of instrument music in worship....

It .... well you get the point.......

Our message to this group is the same to all denomination..."please come out of error before you are uprooted (Matthew 15:13) "

Brotherly,
Don

Re: Fellowship of the Woodlands 'church'

From their site:
KERRY SHOOK is one of today’s most gifted communicators offering a clear, contemporary and creative teaching style. [FAIL] He is senior pastor of Fellowship of The Woodlands, one of the fastest growing churches [FAIL -generally not a hallmark of a biblical church] in America.

Kerry and his wife, Chris, founded Fellowship of The Woodlands in 1993; and since then, the church has grown to 15,600 in average attendance each weekend. Fellowship of The Woodlands is a multi-site church with its main campus in The Woodlands outside of Houston, TX and a satellite campus in the Humble/Kingwood/Atascocita area. Future satellites are in the planning stages.

Kerry believes that church should be engaging and fun [FAIL], calling it “The Best Hour of Your Week”. He strives to eliminate the barriers of boredom, unfriendliness, and fear that keep people from experiencing not just religion, but a relationship with Jesus Christ. His messages are relevant [FAIL] and his illustrations memorable.

Kerry Shook Ministries is a worldwide television ministry that broadcasts to a local, national and international audience. Pastor Kerry can now be seen by millions of people in 50 states and 200 countries worldwide. [who is this church all about now? It seems a little foggy.]

Kerry’s first book and New York Times Best-seller (co-authored with Chris), One Month to Live: Thirty Days to a No-Regrets Life, was released in February 2008. The book encourages readers to face their own mortality [FAIL] and live life to the fullest.[FAIL] The OneMonthtoLive.com website supports total life fitness [FAIL] and allows people to take the 30-Day Challenge. In addition, the One Month to Live Nationwide Church Growth Campaign is designed to help pastors unleash their church’s potential [FAIL].

How much of this sounds like New Agey humanism? Do the words "seeker sensitive" ever come to mind? I live in Utah right now, so I feel I can say he looks scarily like Steven Covey.

Oh yeah...this is from the website for his book
Quote:
(30 chapters) one for every day in a life-changing month—offers fresh strategies for overcoming habits that mire Christians in mediocrity. These strategies come to life through uplifting make-it-count moments, inspiring quotations, colorful true stories and questions for reflection. Readers examine how they can live passionately, love completely, learn humbly, and leave boldly to create a legacy that endures for generations after they’re gone.
Seriously, I don't even want to start on this one.

Re: Fellowship of the Woodlands 'church'

Just another "feel good" denomination. These spring up when people seek to find "religion" that fits their personal lifestyle. You can tell how much our generation has regressed to the first century type idolatry religions that we read about in the Bible. Too much trouble to follow the "rule book" (Bible) on how to live and worship.

Depends; some people start churches in an effort to feel important. That sentiment has caused more harm than all of the money-grubbing in all of history.

I'm waiting for someone to start a Fellowship of the Ring Church. Sadly, I think there are some people, as lost mentally as they are spiritually, who would join up.
