I agree with all that has been said about the garbage on TV. I have about wore my remote out 'editing' out the trashy stuff. I make a lot of audible negative comments about the garbage also. I know it is probably annoying to my husband, because he is able to tune most of it out. I am getting better at that, since I am so involved with reading and posting on the computer. The morning shows on the 3 major channels are loaded with junk, and almost always, the sex related 'news'. Although we are both well into our years, (and there are seldom any children here), we have 'heard it all', but that does not make me like it, and want it constantly crammed down our throats. I did send a email to one station with my complaint. They didn't even respond. They are only interested in their ratings with the public, and ...sad to say, most of the public like that garbage. I used to like watching Wheel of Fortune, but so many of the contestants yell that OMG all the time anymore. That, and other rather uncivilized behavior, has pretty much turned me against watching it. So far Jeopardy is okay, but they are always pushing Catholicism and Mythology. We have only an antenna, so have access to very few stations, one of which is an educational channel, and they push the evolution stuff ! |

I agree with everything said here too, it's just awful anymore My son who is 13 went with me to the dry cleaners to pick up my husbands shirts...wellthe lady who waited on us, OH-MY-GOSH she had on one of those spaghetti-string tank tops that was very low cut, her chest was quite large and ( excuse me for this description, but..) they sagged down to her belly button it looked like she had no bra on! I was litterally disgusted! And here's my 13yr. old son...what was HE thinking?? I shook my head and voiced how completely inappropriate that girl was dressed...it was awful. I thought to myself, "should I say something to the manager?" surely he wouldn't allow this kind of apparel ( or lack of ) in the work place, would he??well...I DID say something...I told them exactly how inappropriate that is and how embarrassed I was for my son! The management agreed, said she was "new"...well who cares IMO I hope they straightened that out with this girl, if I go back and see it again, I won't be going back |

I thought you were going to say the girl WAS the manager! That is how bad things are these days...

| Re: Smut: It's everywhere!
My wife (Amy) sat down with our five year old daughter the other day before she started her first day at kindergarten and explained to her that many of the kids did not go to church anywhere and that she may here words come from them which she know is wrong. Amy told her to just ignore them and not to be repeating them. One afternoon last week we went to pick her up and out of the blue she told us that it was not the kids which were using bad words but the teachers. Of course Amy and I both were shocked and I immediately asked Betty just what the teachers were saying. She told me she could not tell me because it was bad words which she didn't say. After assuring her that it was alright to tell me because I really needed to know she finally consented and said that both her teachers had been saying OMG in classes and saying it alot. We are very proud of Betty and her handling of this situation. Although, I am truly surprised she has not told the teacher that she should not be saying that. That is how she would normally react. |

| Re: Smut: It's everywhere! Quote:
A highly unrecognized problem with the pervasiveness of unlawful sexuality in our culture is that people who consider themselves well-meaning have become so accustomed to fighting against unlawful sexuality that they forget that lawful sexuality exists, and begin to regard as common that which God has called clean. The mental habit has become so ingrained, even in the brotherhood, that people speak of sex as something that is not quite right, but which is made tolerable by marriage, an idea which depart from the Scriptures. Some have even come to the notion, not found in the Bible, that even lawful sexuality must be minimized. Clearly, people are afraid that any discussion of the topic will be viewed as lascivious, even when there is no such intent. This poses a major problem for couples that are having difficulties in this area. They have nobody in the church to whom they can turn, because they fear being scorned by those whom in this context may be regarded as Pharisees. |

Sadly we are growing up in a society of garbage remember the slogan "Garbage in Garbage out" Television shows particularly sitcoms have really gone south in a hurry. it seem to start with shows like Friends and just got worse. What ever happend to good quality programming like "Family Matters" or "The Cosby Show". I myself watch less and less Television and focuss any of my TV watching time to some of the more learning based channels like TLC, Discovery channel and HGTV. This is part of the reason I built my own theater down in our basement, I can rent movies I am not sure of and if they turn out to be bad Language or nudity I just turn it off and I'm not out a whole pile of cash. I find myself going to Christian spotlight on entertainment before I rent or buy anything. The magazine issue has been around for many many years even when I was a child 20 years ago they had them out in plain view. Sadly its not only our children that are affected by this we as parents can also be. I sometimes think that the Hutterites have it so much better not exposing there children to all of this. |
