Catholic Discussion

We had a good discussion on catholics and things in their doctrine that could not be found in the Bible (as one knows that the Bible is the source of God's Word and nothing man has put out on his own). Also, anyone might want to go to the thread on catholic religion to see what was said there because the truth was presented and never proven wrong in God's Word.

Re: An angel a saint?

Did I miss seeing the following scripture :

Jude. 3 Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.

And :

2nd Peter 1.3 as his divine power has given to us all things that pertain
to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue.

In Christ

Re: An angel a saint?

No, you didn't miss anything. As some denominations would like to vote on who they may make saints, the Word of God (which is some denominations book they use) will bypass God's thoughts and substitue thier own doctrine.

Simply put...God's Word says that those who are of the body (church) of Christ are saints. Man's denominations says that we vote on who is a saint.

Which to believe...do we really have to ask that question??

I don't want to open up a powder keg with some on this forum but will answer you question and we'll leave it at that.

Basically, Catholics believe that the Church is the authority for the Christian and that her apostolic teachings carry equal weight to her book, the bible. Neither can cancel each other out. Catholics believe that the Church was given authority by Christ who is the head of the Church. Christ having established his Church then put men in charge of his Church to feed and tend his sheep in his earthly absence.
Hi Peace,

Thanks for answering the question.

You told me what Catholics believe and it was the answer that I figured you might give, but I wasn't sure, not being the authority on Catholic doctrine.

Now my question to you is this: Is this what you believe to be true? I'm not here to judge your thoughts, but I felt like you were to some extent quoting the party line. What's your thoughts on the matter?

Re: Catholic Discussion

Peace,

There were many things that I and others brought up the last time you were here and you either ignored or did not answer. I, for one, would like to see them answered if you can prove them in God's Word.

Re: Catholic Discussion

I’m sorry Mr. White, but I'm not here to prove anything to you.
I would still be happy to answer general questions to the best of my ability but I have my reasons for not going back-n-forth with you in these threads. If what I write does not spur you or anyone else look beyond this thread, fine, but don't try to lure me into an argument - this format cannot take the place of a more personal one-on-one setting. If you are truly interested in what I think and why I think it, rather than being out to "prove me wrong", then you are welcome to private message me if you are interested in a thoughtful, long-term discussion via email.

Re: Catholic Discussion

Peace,

I don't mean to horn in on the discussion between you and Dwayne, but at this site we all try to "prove" things to one another. It isn't a matter of who wins, but of trying to study the Word of God. We all challenge each other to prove our points and when we cannot do so, we back down. All of us have backed down before when we found out the ground on which we stood was shaky. Please understand it's not anything against you at all.

We welcome you to prove your points here and we also welcome you to challenge us to prove our points. It's not a matter of being argumentive; I've met these guys and they're not angry folks--it's just we love God and each other and we love the friendly debate on His Word. I for one want to be proven wrong b/c my immortal soul could be at stake!

Re: Catholic Discussion

Mr. Peace,

See...that is the attitude of someone who doesn't want to truly study. If you came to me and showed me truth and I saw it wsa truth and even though it was against everything I believe, then I would gadly accept it and know in my heart that God's Word stands and man's doctrine is false.

I have let the Bible prove (not me, but the Bible) many things that the denominational world is wrong in what it promotes and teaches. If you feel that "I am out to prove you wrong" or "I want to argue" then you are sadly mistaken.

I will tell you (and anyone else) this...if we say we all serve the same God, then we must all serve Him the SAME way and that is His way. ANY way will not do and when you truly wish to discuss things, then let me know. I don't need to do things in private in order to study or discuss. That is why we have open forums...and I remind you that you came here to us (I thought in order to study)...but when questions are put to you or things are shown to you that disagree with what you say and it comes from God's Word and you ignore them or refuse to answer, then what are we supposed to think? Joes is right in what he said...

"It isn't a matter of who wins, but of trying to study the Word of God. We all challenge each other to prove our points and when we cannot do so, we back down. All of us have backed down before when we found out the ground on which we stood was shaky. Please understand it's not anything against you at all.

I noticed that you asked some same questions that you asked before to others and myself and they gave you the same answers that I and others gave you before...were you looking for something different??

Just so you know...I have gone further than you think into my study of many doctrines that say they are teaching truth (including catholic doctrine) and cannot find truth there. I only find truth in the Bible, which you have said that is not the source.

I will continue to teach the true Gospel in order to bring the truth to those who wish to accept it...regardless of thier feelings. And I will let the Bible prove God to be right...and man's doctrine wrong!
