| True Sacrifice
Two well-to-do Christians, a lawyer and a merchant, joined a group that was going around the world. One day in Korea, they saw a field by the side of the road, and in the field a boy pulled a crude plow while an old man held the plow handles and guided it. The lawyer was amused and took a snapshot of the scene. He turned to the missionary, who served as their interpreter and guide, and he said, "That's a curious site." The guide replied, "Yes, that is the family of Chi Noui. When the place of worship was being built, they were eager to give something to it, but they had no money, so they sold their only ox and gave the money to the church. This spring, they are pulling the plow themselves." The men were silent for several moments. Then the businessman replied, "That must have been a real sacrifice." The guide said, "They do not call it that. They thought it was fortunate that they had an ox to sell." The two tourists had not much to say, but when they reached home, the lawyer took the picture to his preahcer and told him of the incident. "I want to double my offering to the church," he said. "And give me some plow work to do. I have never known waht sacrifice for the Lord really means. I am ashamed to say that I have never given anything to Him that realy cost me anything." | Re: True Sacrifice
I don't know about anyone else, but this made me cry, and I don't mean just a little moisture in the eye. I have a new sermon topic for Sunday. Reminded me of when I was in Mexico. Went to the Yucatan Peninsula as part of a mission trip. We support a preacher down there. This is not Cancun either. We went to Campeche and Chompoton. They are impoverished down there and have basically nothing. Plus they were recovering from a bad hurricane. These people showed what real sacrifice is. We Americans have nothing on those people. Reminds me of the church at Smyrna "...I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty (but thou art rich)..."
