Question (Words and Actions)

Hi all - I tried to post this in the Bible Questions part, but I couldn't.

I know it's a bit of a silly question, but here goes...
You know the saying, "Actions speak louder than words"? It's true, but I'm looking for a Bible verse/s which teach this. The best one I can think of at the moment is Matthew 7:15-20, but it doesn't quite say what that saying says.

Any help you can give me will be appreciated!

Love in the Lord

Tim

I would say that "Actions speak louder than words" is correct in a sense.

To those apart from Christ, it is true that they don't care how much you know till they know how much you care. Nothing we can say can really make that point, actions must be taken.

Our Words are meaningless unless backed by ACTION
1 John 3:15-20:
Quote:
1Jn 3:15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
1Jn 3:16 Hereby know we love, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
1Jn 3:17 But whoso hath the world's goods, and beholdeth his brother in need, and shutteth up his compassion from him, how doth the love of God abide in him?
1Jn 3:18 My Little children, let us not love in word, neither with the tongue; but in deed and truth.
1Jn 3:19 Hereby shall we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our heart before him:
1Jn 3:20 because if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. (ASV)
If there is one thing we should all take away from James it is this: Empty words are not enough.

James 2:14-17:
Quote:
Jas 2:14 What doth it profit, my brethren, if a man say he hath faith, but have not works? can that faith save him?
Jas 2:15 If a brother or sister be naked and in lack of daily food,
Jas 2:16 and one of you say unto them, Go in peace, be ye warmed and filled; and yet ye give them not the things needful to the body; what doth it profit?
Jas 2:17 Even so faith, if it have not works, is dead in itself. (ASV)
We should not state, however, that actions are more important than words, they work in tandem with one another. Just as our words are empty if they are not backed up with actions; so can our actions be nullified by contradictory words. Listen to the words of Christ:

Quote:
Mat 12:35 The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil.
Mat 12:36 I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak,
Mat 12:37 for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned. (ESV)
Truly we cannot excuse our words with our actions, for our words reveal our character:

Quote:
Mat 15:18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.
Mat 15:19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
Mat 15:20 These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man. (KJV)
Good question Tim! I hope that helped.

Lee
