The Big Bang Theory: Explosive Beginning or Scientific Dud?

The Big Bang Theory: Explosive Beginning or Scientific Dud?

Close your eyes for one brief moment and imagine complete darkness. Suddenly, in one glorious moment the universe appears. Without leaving out any intricate detail, imagine the universe coming to be. Every painstaking moment passes by in your mind as the stars, the heavens, and the planets are created. Finally, the universe has been complated. Depending on your views, you more than likely saw the complete construction in one of three ways.

1.) You said to yourself, “Wait, the universe has always been here. It was never created.” You believe the universe to be eternal. It always has, currently is, and always will be.
2.) You viewed complete darkness, followed by an expansion from one single point in the darkness. You believe that the universe had no help in its creation, as it created itself. You more than likely believe in The Big Bang Theory.
3.) You saw an Intelligent Designer sculpt the universe. This Designer was the sole reason this universe came to be. Without the Creator, this universe would not be.

The topic of the creation of the universe is a hot topic in today’s society. Scientists have long lauded the Big Bang Theory as the one explanation for our existence today. Everything in this universe from the largest star to the smallest insect came to be when something suddenly appeared from nothing. They have gone great lengths to try and prove to society that science has the one truth. Science has the only answers and anyone who chooses to think otherwise is nothing more than a close-minded and ignorant being. Christians the world over believe that God created the universe. The first chapter of Genesis states that God spoke everything into existence. He created the heavens, the Earth, the waters, the land, and all living beings on the face of the planet. There are others who believe that the Big Bang and the Biblical Creation are one and the same. I, the writer, cannot justify this as the Big Bang requires the notion of a creator to be null. It is my aim as the writer to prove this theory to be nothing more than a godless assumption. In order to prove my point, I am going to look at different “proofs” that science uses to prove their alleged point. I am then going to look at the theory itself and prove it to be a hoax. Finally, I am going to look at the beginning of the universe and scientific laws according to the Bible.

There are a number of “scientific data” that may seem to support the Theory of the Big Bang.

A.) The universe is thought to have had a beginning.

It’s nice to see that we can agree on something. If the universe never had an actual beginning, then there could have been no bang. This is reaffirmed by the Second Law of Thermodynamics. Commonly known as the Law of Increased Entropy, this law states that the quality of energy gradually degenerates over time. Energy is in a constant state of use and is being converted to unusable energy. When all energy in the universe has been used, the universe will become dead; therefore it must have an end. One can surmise that if the universe will one day end, it cannot be eternal. If the universe cannot be eternal, it must have had a beginning. There are three possible ways the universe began. It was either eternal, created itself, or had a Creator. This crosses out our first option, which listed the universe as being eternal.

B.) There is an abundance of Hydrogen and Helium molecules that can be found in the universe. These “light elements” are thought to support the theory.

Supposedly, three hundred thousand years after the Big Bang occurred, all of the electrons, neutrons, and protons flying through space began to form together, mostly making Helium and Hydrogen atoms. One billion years after the Big Bang, these atoms began to form together to form stars. Fifteen billion years after the Big Bang, these stars began to form galaxies because of gravity pushing these stars together. Stars began dying and heavy elements were left after the death. These heavy elements began forming together, creating the stars and planets we see on a daily and nightly basis. Am I alone in wondering why science has yet to recreate this phenomenon? Hydrogen and Helium are made out to be the building blocks of this universe. That being said, what’s to stop a scientist from creating matter out of these two elements, at least on a small scale? We’ve made all these advances in science, so surely we have the technology available. Maybe our source of power for this technology needs to be a bit more…divine.

C.) There is proof that the universe is in a state of expansion and that expansion is accelerating. This rate is used to calculate the age of the universe.

The Hubble Constant, named after its creator Edwin Hubble, is the constant proportion between relative velocity and distance used to calculate the expansion of the universe. Initially, Mr. Hubble set the constant at 500 km/sec/Mpc (kilometers per second per megaparsec [one parsec equals just a little over three light-years (3.2616) ; a megaparsec is equal to one million parsecs]). This constant was set in 1929. In 1979, this so-called constant was found to be in error. In fact, since its initial creation, the Hubble Constant has been change a total of eleven times. This is no trivial matter since any change in the Hubble Constant means a change in the age of the universe. Why the constant (no pun intended) change to the constant? The universe is being accelerated by a mysterious force known as “Dark Energy.” The only problem us that the changes made to the constant do not reflect acceleration, as the constant seems to fluctuate around high and lows. In 1994 alone, the age of the universe was as low as eight billion years of age to as high as seventeen billion years. This kind of constant (again no pun) change does not help science’s case regarding the beginning of the universe.

We have noticed some of the flaws in just of a few of the “proofs” that science gives in regards to the Big Bang. Now, let us notice the theory as a whole. For many years, a number of scientists have claimed again and again that the Big Bang is the end all discussion. We’re supposed to nod our heads and agree with everything said. I respectfully decline.

According to the theory, there was nothing at the beginning of the universe. There was no space, time, matter, or any form of energy. Everything appeared within a single singularity. Singularities are an indefinitely small, dense, and hot something. They are thought to exist in the center of black holes. Black holes are areas of intense gravitation. The pressure is so intense that an object of definite proportions could be mashed into an indefinite density. Keeping this in mind, wouldn’t a black hole be needed for the singularity to exist? If there was a black hole, where did it come from? How did the singularity escape the gravitational forces of the black hole? Wouldn’t the force be so powerful that nothing could ever escape it?

I’d also like to point out another Law of Thermodynamics. The First Law of Thermodynamics, known as the Law of Conservation of Matter, states that energy cannot be created or destroyed. The type of energy is changed but the amount of energy in the universe stays the same. That being said the Theory of the Big Bang cannot be plausible. The singularity cannot appear from nothing. If it had, then the Law of Conservation of Matter could not be true. Certainly learned men such as Stephen Hawking, George Ellis, and Roger Penrose must have known all of this when they came up with this assumption. Perhaps they thought no one would notice.

This singularity just began expanding. There was no actual “bang” as the name would imply. The singularity just began expanding and is still expanding to this day. It’s a good thing that the explosion was changed to an expansion because I have never seen or heard of an explosion creating anything. You cannot set a charge of dynamite on a stack of lumber and expect a house to appear. Expect toothpicks and lots of them.

The universe supposedly expanded from the size of an atom to that of a grapefruit within a fraction of a second. By the time you’d get halfway through saying the word “the,” our universe was already the size of grocery produce. The universe was a hot cauldron of electrons, quarks, and other particles. As the universe cools, quarks begin to form protons and neutrons. All of that takes place in about a second. Within three minutes of the expansion, the universe is still too hot to form atoms. Electrons and protons form a thick, hot fog that prevents light from shining. After three hundred thousand years have passed, atoms are finally able to form (mostly Hydrogen and Helium). Light is finally able to shine. Someone was able to find the light switch. One billion years have passed and gravity forces the hydrogen and helium to come together and form giant clouds that will one day become our galaxies. The first stars are formed from smaller clumps of gas. Fifteen billion years pass and galaxies form under the pressure of gravity. The first stars die and spew elements into space that one day become new stars and planets. Still it doesn’t matter. The Law of Conservation of Matter still cancels this entire theory out. You can never get matter from nothing.

Finally, I’d like to bring out what I’d like to call (since I’m in a scientific mood) The Law of The Word. Here we can find the true beginning of the universe and a few scientific laws in Biblical terms.

Re: The Big Bang Theory: Explosive Beginning or Scientific Dud?

(Since the forum decided that my post was too long, here's part two!)

The universe was created by an Intelligent Designer. This Creator was the sole reason for all things, living and non-living, throughout the entire cosmos. He was also able to do it in seven days, compared to billions upon billions of years.

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”
Genesis 1:1

By merely speaking, He:

1.) Created light within the darkness of the universe.
“And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.”
Genesis 1:3-5

2.) Created a firmament and divided the clouds from the waters.
“And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.”
Genesis 1:6-8

3.) Separated the waters from the lands and created plant life.
“And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so. And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called the Seas: and God saw that it was good. And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the third day.”
Genesis 1: 9-13

4.) Created the sun, the moon, and the stars.
“And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament for the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, And to rule over the day and over night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.”
Genesis 1:14-19

5.) Created sea animals and birds.
“And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.”
Genesis 1:20-23

6.) Created land dwelling animals and man.
“And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and the beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and the cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God said, Let us make man in our own image, after out likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”

“And God saw every thing that he made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
Genesis 1:24-28, 31

Finally, on the seventh day, God rested.

“And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.”
Genesis2:2-3

Scriptures of the Bible support the laws I’ve mentioned in this lesson. You can find proof of The Second Law of Thermodynamics in I Peter 1:22-25, Hebrews 1:11, Isaiah 51:6, and Psalm 102:26.

“Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth forever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower therefore falleth away.”
I Peter 1:22-25

We will one day pass away just as the grass dies. With our death, everything we’ve accomplished in our lifetimes will also fade away just as the flower of the grass will.

“They shall perish: but though remainst; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment.”
Hebrews 1:11

“Life up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath: for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment, and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner: but my salvation shall be forever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished.”
Isaiah 51:6

“They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture shalt though change them, and they shall be changed.”
Psalm 102:26

For the sake of repetition, The Second Law of Thermodynamics (The Law of Increased Entropy) states that the quality of energy gradually degenerates over time. As stated in each verse, everything will perish. All life will die. The earth and the skies will one day be no more. Everything we know in this life will one day be nothing more than a memory. I have Biblical proof of the Second Law of Thermodynamics. No proof of the Big Bang Theory.

I also have a scriptural reference to the First Law of Thermodynamics.

“And the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.”
Genesis 2:1

Notice the use of the word finished? It’s used in the past tense. Once again for the sake of repetition, the Law of Conservation of Matter states that neither matter nor energy can be created or destroyed. This verse reinforces that first law.

The very topic of creation is a hot button in today’s society. Often we can find ourselves intimidated by science and may sometimes accept what they say is true. In this article we have talked about the so-called “proof” that science has to support their one “truth” that so many scientists want us to believe. I have also discussed the Theory of the Big Bang and tried to expose it for what it is - A fallacy that scientists the world over would have us believe. I have also quoted scriptures from the Word of God supporting creation and scientific laws that disprove the theory. So, there’s one specific question that remains: Big Bang or Big Dud? It’s up to you, the reader, to decide what fact is and what fiction is. I hope that I have helped sway you closer to the correct choice. If you ask my opinion, the Big Bang Theory holds as much value in my mind as the singularity that supposedly started it all. It’s so small, you can’t measure it.
