Help! Catholic eucharist!

All,

Would someone please give me a quick list (10 minimum) regarding the Lord's Supper specifically and in general I may use to refute this doctrine and process? I've been studying it a bit lately and all I can say is...there is no smiley below sufficient to express my horror! Please help me be correct, succinct, accurate, and specific!

I don't have the time or inclination to go buy someone's book right now. Arguments may come later and I will study them, but I need a general attack plan ASAP.

Thx

Doug

(no, I am not Catholic but know several)

Re: Help! Catholic eucharist!

OF course the short version of any discussion of the Roman eucharist has to be transubstantiation --- which they believe is the actual transformation of the bread and "wine" into the body and blood of Christ.

There is no New Testament authority for any such teaching, That's first and foremost. All error refutes the necessity of New Testament authority for that which is done in faith and practice. That one issue is tearing the denominations apart RIGHT NOW because they have spent years separating themselves from the authority of the Bible and now they have nowhere left to go.

That's it in a nutshell. Welcome to the site.

Here is an article that addresses the Seven Sacraments, which includes the Eucharist:

Alas, I wish it were hereditary, but I am regularly reminded that it is not.

You forgot a single important words: literal and "actual"- "OF course the short version of any discussion of the Roman eucharist has to be transubstantiation --- which they believe is the actual [literal] transformation of the bread and "wine" into the [actual] body and blood of Christ."

The purpose of Mass according to the Rituale Romanum is that the Eucharist is the daily sacrifice of the body and blood of Jesus Christ. In their mind, the single sacrifice of Jesus on the cross approx 2000 years ago isn't enough, but must renewed daily to keep its effect alive in the continuum of time until Jesus returns on the final day. This is nothing less than raw paganism (Greco-Roman) dressed up in semi-christian lingo.
Quote:
Hebrews 6:4-6 or it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, 5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, 6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
That is why the Protestant Reformation was a failure in what it was initially seeking to accomplish.

Re: Help! Catholic eucharist!

The dictionary definition of "actual" is, "true to fact; not exaggerated; actual or factual: a literal description of conditions." (dictionary.com)

I was only giving the short answer, not the perfect one. Thanks for the correction. My wife always likes being corrected, too.

Brother John ... not a correction, just a helping hand.
