Number of Immersions at Baptism

This may be considered an insignificant question and taking up space, but I think it is an interesting and important one if we are ever approached with it.

We are baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of our sins. (ref. Acts 2:38) When I was a member of the Eastern Orthodox Church, when someone was baptised for the remission of their sins, they were immersed three times: one for the Father; one for the Son; and one for the Holy Spirit. (ref. Matt. 28:19) Is this unscriptural or just a matter of opinion?

Blessings,
Pam

Re: Number of Immersions at Baptism

The Father, Son and Holy Spirit are one in the same... three in one. You can baptize in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit in one immersion. We have no examples of three immersions in one baptism.

I don't know that it would be unscriptural, but it would not be required.

Re: Number of Immersions at Baptism

Thanks, Brother Sonnie. That makes sense. I appreciate the mention of God, Son, and Holy Spirt as one therefore one immersion. I knew that they were one but I didn't think of that in this context.

As always, I appreciate your well thought out responses.

Blessings,
Pam
