In addition to the verses you suggest, one should back up to verse 15 (24:15ff) and read through 31. With this accomplished, a good study would be Daniel 9:24-27, Is. 13:10, Ezek. 32:7 and others. Many of these passages are apocolyptic and written strictly for the believing. All of these time were perilous times for the saints and they only would understand the meanings. If it had been written in everyday language, all would have faced destruction from the ruling forces.
A thorough study of Daniel would be a great prerequisite for the study of the Revelation letter.
